Moccasin - Last Leaf

Many bands on Buddyhead Records don't get enough respect. I mean sure, the owners are dicks who post personal information on almost-universally reviled artists for the sole pleasure of making said people miserable, but they're funny dicks, and that makes them ok in my book. To be back on point, Moccasin is one of those Buddyhead bands who get scoffed at for being associated with such upstarts. There is irony to be had in this, since all bands on the label are good. From Moccasin to Wires On Fire, Icarus Line(before they jumped ship) and Jubilee, all their discographies are worth owning. With Moccasin's Last Leaf, once you hear the stoner-rock/pseudo-shoegaze tinged loud rock you'll be hard-pressed to find a substitute just as good. Enjoy.

Uzeda - Waters

I suppose it's too late to wish everyone a "Happy New Year!". Right then, on to the music...

Uzeda is a Sicilian "math rock" band formed in 1987. It's been around for over 20 years now and it strikes me that it hasn't made more of a name for themselves. Despite having their albums produced by the indomitable Steve Albini (whose albums I will eventually upload), their apparent obscurity here in the U.S. further exemplifies the reluctance of people to explore new musical horizons. Ironic, since they sound a lot like Sonic Youth circa "Goo" era, albeit with a more sludgier sound. Enjoy.

Elvis Costello - The Best of the First 10 Years

He's been around for a long time, and if you've never listened to him before, this CD is a good starting point. Accumulates his best early material. Succinct? Enjoy.

Crystal Castles - Alice Glass EP

This Toronto duo is the newest "it" thing at the moment. Hell, NME even labeled Alice Glass the coolest person of the year, if you care about that kind of menial unimportant shit. From what I've read, Ethan Kath, the second half of the duo, gave Glass a CD with 60 instrumental tracks upon which she recorded vocals for 5. They went to the recording studio and accidentally recorded the mic check. Thus the "Alice Practice" single was born. Enjoy.

The Great Destroyer

I haven't decided yet on the format of this blog. I've been contemplating on just flooding a very large post containing all the works of one artist or trickle the works out along an extended period of time, sprinkled in with various other artists' works. I'm leaning towards the latter, plus, variety is always good.

This Low album, like the Christmas album, doesn't sound like the rest of their usual output. Much more aggressive and fast-paced. Enjoy.

Lovvers - Think

Because I'm in a hurry, I'll just quote Dom Gourlay of contact music, "To break ‘Think’ down into a song-by-song summary would be both laughable and pointless(...). Quite simply, this is music to annoy the neighbours and offend anyone with an inclination to listen to such aural dross as Nickelback or Scouting For Girls."
Sums it up. Enjoy.
